Signature Elevators & Accessible Design LLC's Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator carries you from floor to floor without cables, pulleys or pistons! This self supporting residential elevator can travel up to 35' or four stops, with no pits or hoist way required.

The pneumatic vacuum is actually not a glass tube elevator, the walls are made of polycarbonate, and the structure is high strength aluminum. The steel cabin floor includes brakes and safety mechanisms, its ceiling, lights and a circulation fan. The easiest way to wrap your brain around this unique elevator s to think of a tube within a tube. That is in fact what it is. A polycarbonate cabin inside a polycarbonate shaft.

The Vacuum Elevators five 220 vac turbines dramatically reduce the air pressure above the cabin resulting in a steady ascent. A valve regulating the inflow of air relative to cab speed, slow increase intake air above the cabin and the elevator gently descends to the next stop. The cab itself never changes pressure. It's as green as a residential elevator can get because it uses no energy during descent. Unlike a more typical residential elevator if the power goes out it is impossible to get stuck between floors. The Vacuum Elevator has locking devices within the shaft to stop ascent or descent at the upper & lower points of travel.

  

Another great benefit to the pneumatic vacuum elevator is low maintenance relative to the conventional residential elevator. There are no rails to grease, no ropes to check no fluid level to top off, or controller panel to check for burnt out LED etc. The system is based upon the air. Granted air brings lots of dust & dirt and as a result filters and turbines and even the cab should be cleaned regularly. Polycarbonate is an extremely soft plastic which scratches easily. So the biggest maintenance issue with the PVE is cleanliness.
